Over 4,000 health workers in Homabay County have been on strike for
more than two weeks now, demanding their unpaid salaries and
allowances for June and July. This has caused untold suffering to the
area residents seeking medical services. The health workers who are
members of different unions including of the Kenya National
Union Nurses, Kenya Union of Clinical Officers and Kenya National Union
of Laboratory Officers, Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Union
recently insisted the strike will persist until their dues are settled.
Speaking to the press, KUPPET Secretary General Akello Misori said it
was unfortunate that health workers had downed their tools during this
time of the pandemic as he called on the Homabay County Government
to urgently resolve the salary issues.
